Minute 927 //adult Education The Safra Synagogue in Everyone wants his or her child to get a good education. Parents have come to realize that the school is only part of the total picture. The home environment is crucial to the growth of the child's intellect. Parents spend millions of dollars annually to provide their offspring with educational toys, trips to museums and to interactive science and technology presentations. The media, who never pass up an opportunity to cash in on consumer wants, have created a variety of educational toys and games, books and periodical and -- of course -- television programming. Recent studies have shown, however, that TV programming fails to deliver as advertised. Psychological tests have proven that the child who watches educational programming is less successful than children who are "deprived" educational fair. The reason, they conclude, is that a non-active involvement yields no fruit. "Interactive" is the buzz today. Adults too must realize the value of working to grow in any area of their lives. In physical development the slogan is: "No pain -- no gain." Well the same is true with any self-help program. Just sitting back and listening to an expert will yield nothing at the end of the day. One has to take responsibility to carry the burden -- to do the work -- THEMSELF. Today when you feel your spouse, your manager or anyone other than you can get it done -- stop. It only takes a minute to roll up your sleeves and start the job yourself. The sweat and toil -- mental or physical --that you expend will yield treasures that you will OWN for years to come.
